NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--While they might be reclining in a hammock sipping a pina colada, only half of investors (51 percent) move to the sidelines while on vacation, and 1 in 10 said they trade more according to a new survey by SogoTrade, the deep-discount brokerage with $3 commissions for online stock trades.
“For active traders following the market is part of their lifestyle; for them, trading while on vacation might even be relaxing. And they probably find they can focus more closely on each trade. With the convenience of online trading some people are inclined to spend a vacation making like Gordon Gekko rather than Clark Griswold,” said David D. Whitmore, president of SogoTrade. While you might expect aggressive short-term traders to welcome a break from trading while on vacation, SogoTrade’s survey showed that of investors who indicated short-term objectives, 65% of them trade at least the same, and 14% said they trade more during vacation. The survey, conducted during July 2008, among 611 individual investors also found that of the most active traders, those who trade more than 50 times per month, nearly 20 percent trade more during vacation. “Active traders love what they do and for many, the chance to get more deeply into their trading strategies is welcome indeed,” said Whitmore.
